The road trip of a couple from Tamil Nadu ended with the most shocking anti-climax possible after one of them set fire to their own car.

The incident was reported from the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu on Thursday night.

Kavin, a native of Dharmapuri district, was travelling with his girlfriend when the two got into a fight, after which he set fire to his own Mercedes Benz worth nearly Rs. 40 lakh.

Fought during road trip

According to the police, the 28-year-old, who had completed MBBS from a private college last year, was working as a doctor in Kancheepuram.

He was in a relationship with a student, who was his junior in college for nearly two years.

On Thursday, the duo drove around Kancheepuram in Kavin’s car.

Argument turns ugly

During the trip, they stopped the car near Rajakulam village and the couple started arguing over something.

According to some eyewitnesses, Kavin then got out of his car, collected fuel from the vehicle’s tank in an empty bottle, and poured it all over.

Even as his girlfriend tried to stop him, Kavin set fire to the Mercedes-Benz CLA 200 D.

Arrested, granted bail

It was too late when some passersby saw the blaze and alerted the Fire and Rescue Department.

It took the firefighters nearly an hour to put out the fire, which had burned down the car entirely by that point.

Following the incident, Kancheepuram Taluk police registered a case against Kavin, who was arrested, but later was granted station bail.
