Tamil Nadu DGP Sylendra Babu has issued a memorandum to the City Police Commissioners, Police Zone IGs, Range DIGs and District SPs expressing displeasure over the mishandling of a kidnapping case in Tenkasi.

DGP Sylendra Babu had stated in the memorandum that the Inspector had taken no action even though a report was given to the police station and that the DSP had sought permission from the SP three times but was not given until a CCTV video of the kidnapping went viral.

Earlier, police stated that special teams were created to discover Krithika’s whereabouts, but the DGP’s letter has raised questions about the way Tenkasi Police have handled the case.

IndiaToday has discovered that the DGP was referring to the case where a woman from Gujarat was abducted reportedly by her relatives. Krithika Patel from Gujarat got married to Vineeth on December 27, after being in a relationship for six years.

Krithika’s parents were against her wishes and an abduction attempt was allegedly made on January 14, but the couple had escaped. Vineeth had reportedly filed a complaint. He later stated that no action was taken.

On January 25, when Vineeth was returning home, he was assaulted by Krithika’s family who then dragged her out of her home, which was caught on CCTV, shocking Tamil Nadu.

“Such a lethargic and call-outs attitude of the District SP is viewed with displeasure. His inaction over a sensitive issue brought serious embarrassment to the Police Department”, stated DGP Sylendra Babu.

He also instructed unit officers to take immediate action in sensitive matters of serious incidents.

“The permission of District SPS is not at all necessary to register an FIR in a kidnapping incident and the SP should never be a bottleneck or hurdle for setting a criminal law into motion in his district on every complaint of cognizable offence,” stated Sylendra Babu.
