Sectarian violence erupted at Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti dargah in Ajmer Sharif on Sunday. Members of two sects — the Barelvi and the Ajmer sect — engaged in a scuffle inside the famous Ajmer Sharif Dargah.

The two sides broke into a fight after Dargah’s administration raised objections to the reading of certain verses by members of the Barelvi sect. Members of both sects fought inside the Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Dargah. Sources said that the fight turned violent after members of the Barelvi sect allegedly indulged in sloganeering and read verses, which were objected to by the Khadims of the Dargah.

It has been said that the Khadims allegedly raised their hands on those sloganeering inside the Dargah premises, near Jannati Darwaza.

The situation simmered down after Dargah Police Station in-charge Amar Singh Bhati intervened and separated both sides.

As per sources, no formal complaint has been filed against the scuffle at Ajmer Sharif.
