Indian captain Shafali Verma was visibly emotional after India’s historic title victory at the 2023 ICC Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup. The Women in Blue are the inaugural champions of the tournament and achieved the feat after beating England in the final on Sunday (January 29) at the Senwes Park in Potchefstroom.

Shafali struggled to keep hold of her tears while talking to the presenter and had to stop her interview to soak in the moment giving an indication of how she felt on leading the country to their first-ever women’s ICC title in history.

The Indian senior women’s team had never lifted an ICC trophy having lost the final of the 2005 and 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup. Shafali alongside wicket-keeper Richa Ghosh was part of the team that tasted defeat in the 2022 Women’s T20 World Cup final against Australia in front of a record crowd at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
