New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi today condoled the death of Odisha Health Minister Naba Kisore Das, who died after being shot at by a cop this afternoon. The minister breathed his last at Apollo Hospital in Bhubaneswar after he was shot at by an assistant sub-inspector at Gandhi Chowk near Brajarajnagar in Jharsuguda district.
President Droupadi Murmu condemned the “dastardly act of violence” and offered deepest condolences to his family.
“Shocked and disturbed by the death of Shri Naba Kishore Das ji, Odisha Health minister, in a dastardly act of violence. My deepest condolences to his family and well wishers,” President Murmu tweeted.
PM Modi said he was saddened by the unfortunate demise and offered condolences to the family of the minister.
“Saddened by the unfortunate demise of Minister in Odisha Government, Shri Naba Kishore Das Ji. Condolences to his family in this tragic hour. Om Shanti,” PM Modi tweeted.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also expressed shock over the death of the leader and posted a series of tweets remembering the BJD leader. The CM said that as a grassroots leader, Naba Kisore Das has the love and respect of all people irrespective of party opinion. CM Patnaik termed his death “an irreparable loss to the entire state” and said that “his role in the government and the party will always be remembered.”
Odisha CM remembered that Naba Kisore Das has done many innovative things in the health sector to make a difference in people’s lives. Also, as a leader, he has contributed immensely in strengthening the Biju Janata Dal. “My condolences to the bereaved family members at such a sad time and may his soul rest in peace,” the CM tweeted.
The CM had earlier directed the crime branch to take up the investigation of the case and senior officers of the crime branch have been asked to go to the spot. Following his orders, a team of Odisha Crime Branch headed by a senior police official proceeded to the spot where Das was shot at.
State Honour to be accorded to Naba Das
The Odisha government announced that state honour will be given to minister Naba Das. There will be no official entertainment for three days from January 29 to January 31 in the entire state.
According to an official statement from the Odisha government, the national flag will fly at half-mast on the day of death and on the day of the funeral.
